Kim Beck Explores the Overlooked Landscape on Sept. 30

Artist Kim Beck will give a public talk cosponsored by Lafayette College and the Karl Stirner Arts Trail on Wednesday, Sept. 30, from 4:15–5:15 p.m.

Kim Bast creates art in her studio.

Free and open to the public, the event will take place at Lafayette College’s Landis Cinema in Buck Hall (219 N. 3rd St.).

Beck is visiting the trail that day to explore opportunities for an installation as KSAT’s Artist-in-Residence for 2027. During her presentation, she will discuss the evolution of her creative process and how her artistic journey led to her current engagements with the surrounding landscape.

About the Artist

Beck’s multidisciplinary work — spanning weaving, photography, printmaking, drawing, sculpture, and artist’s books — pays close attention to the details of everyday environments that often go unnoticed, such as cracked surfaces, volunteer weeds, patched roads, and ordinary rocks. Moving between intimate studio research and expansive public gestures, her work asks what we miss when we look past the frayed or falling apart. Wry and tender, her installations and artwork have appeared in venues ranging from highway billboards to the rim of the Grand Canyon.
