Enjoy Poetry Events This Summer

Watch local poets compose spontaneous verse on a manual typewriter.

Two women smile as they watch poet Darrell Parry compose a spontaneous poem for them on an old-fashioned typewriter at the Easton Farmers' Market as part of the Karl Stirner Arts Trail's Poetry in the Wild Project.

Visit the Karl Stirner Arts Trail this summer for our Second Saturday Poetry events, as well as similar ones at the Easton Farmers’ Market and West Ward Market. Local poets will compose spontaneous poetry on manual typewriters to inspire you and brighten your day.

We invite local poets to join us for inspiration and support. Contact coordinator Maryann Riker, maryann_riker@hotmail.com.

We also are seeking submissions for monthly themed poetry webpages. The August theme is “Sounds Fishy.”

  • Read the July (Fireflies/Insects) and June (Strawberry Moon) poetry webpages.

Second Saturday Poetry is sponsored by the Karl Stirner Arts Trail Poetry in the Wild Project, which brings poetry and spoken word to the trail. It began with a celebration of National Poem from Your Pocket Day at the Easton Public Market and outside Book and Puppet on April 18.

This project is supported in part with funding from the Hotel Tax grant programs through Northampton County’s Department of Community & Economic Development, a Crayola Community Grant, and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency, through the Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts.
