Some Like It Cold: Stream Temperatures in the Lehigh Valley on Oct. 11

Christa Kelleher, Lafayette College assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering, will lead this Walk & Talk on Saturday, Oct. 11, 11 a.m.-noon.

A few autumn leaves float on top of Bushkill Creek by the reflection of a tree with green leaves along the Karl Stirner Arts Trail in Easton, Pennsylvania.

She’ll discuss stream temperature as an important indicator of stream health and what makes a stream hot or cold, and she’ll make a few water quality measurements along Bushill Creek.

Meet at the Richard McAteer Memorial Bridge (“blue bridge”). Nearby parking is available.

Kelleher is Lafayette’s Kate and Walter A. Scott ’59 Scholar in Engineering. Her research interests are urban hydrology, stream temperature, stream restoration, comparative hydrology, scientific visualization, and hydrology and water resources education. She earned master’s and doctoral degrees from Penn State and a bachelors of science from Lafayette.

The free event is presented by Nurture Nature Center (NNC).
